Andrew Wiggins told Kansas coach Bill Self that he wants to be traded from Cleveland to Minnesota because the No. 1 overall pick believes it will be better for his long-term future. Wiggins joined his former coach as a guest instructor at Self's basketball camp in suburban Kansas City on Sunday. It's better for me, knowing my personality and what I need to do, to go somewhere where I'm forced to be something as opposed to going in there where they're going to be patient with me and I'm going to be a piece.'' Earlier this week, The Associated Press and several other outlets reported a deal has been reached to send Wiggins, Anthony Bennett and a first-round pick to Minnesota for All-Star forward Kevin Love, who will join LeBron James and Kyrie Irving to form a new ''Big 3'' in Cleveland.

The NBA has fined the Toronto Raptors for tampering after rapper Drake let Kevin Durant know he was wanted in Canada. Drake is a ''global ambassador'' for Canada's NBA club. He was performing at a concert that Durant was attending last week in Toronto when he shouted to the crowd to show the league's MVP what it would be like if he came to play for the Raptors, causing a loud ovation. An NBA spokesman confirmed the fine, which ESPN.com reported Monday was for $25,000.

Alonzo Mourning first thanked all of the usual people when he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame: His coaches, his teachers, and the foster mother who raised him. With one of the doctors who performed his kidney transplant in attendance, the former Georgetown and Miami Heat star discussed the disease that threatened his life and almost ended his career. ''I just thought, 'This is much bigger than me.' I had a goal set to win a championship that was denied when I got kidney disease.'' Mourning returned to win the 2006 NBA title with the Heat and complete a career that led him to the Springfield shrine. He was inducted in a class that also included former NBA commissioner David Stern, NCAA championship-winning coaches Nolan Richardson and Gary Williams and six-time NBA All-Star Mitch Richmond.

Deposed Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling asked an appellate court on Friday to block the $2 billion sale of the team to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. Lawyers for Sterling asked the Second District Court of Appeals to stay a probate judge's ruling that cleared the way for the sale. Sterling's lawyers said in their request for a writ of mandate that if the sale goes through, ''Donald will have lost a unique and irretrievable asset: a 'trophy asset' coveted by high net worth individuals around the world - one of thirty NBA franchises in the country, and one that under Donald's thirty-year ownership has recently become one of the most successful.'' The main complaint of the appellants is the judge's decision to allow the sale to go forward with no time for an appeal. Sterling's estranged wife, Shelly Sterling, negotiated the record sale after the NBA banned the 80-year-old billionaire for making offensive remarks about blacks.

When training camp begins in October, he'll be trying to block and deflect shots in the NBA. On Monday, No.1 overall draft pick Andrew Wiggins was deflecting questions about precisely where he'll be playing. Last week, Cleveland reportedly reached an agreement in principle to send Wiggins, Anthony Bennett and a first-round pick to Minnesota for All-Star forward Kevin Love, who will join LeBron James and Kyrie Irving to form a new ''Big 3'' with the Cavaliers. Speaking publicly for the first time since the reported deal was agreed to, Wiggins refused to be drawn in to any trade talk.
