An Ohio lawmaker wants to create a specialty license plate celebrating the homecoming of LeBron James. State Rep. Rep. Bill Patmon says he plans to introduce legislation within the next two weeks for the ''LeBron James Witness 2.0'' tag. James, an Akron native, announced on July 11 that he was returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers, four years after breaking the city's collective heart by jumping to the Miami Heat. In a letter to legislative colleagues, Patmon said the plate would ''honor the return home of our prodigal champion.'' The Cleveland Democrat said the plate would commemorate the NBA star's contributions to the economy of Ohio and to its children and families through his charity, the LeBron James Family Foundation.

Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose acknowledged tension between members of his inner circle and team management. Rose told the Chicago Sun-Times in an article posted Thursday that he knows ''it's been there.'' ''I'm happy I didn't personally see it,'' Rose said. It bothered me because when I wasn't around, I would hear from certain people that everything wasn't all right.'' There has been speculation in recent years of tension between the organization and Rose's camp. The newspaper cites unidentified organization sources as saying the strain was over members of his inner circle taking shots at the organization and Rose not playing a bigger role in recruiting Carmelo Anthony.

Manu Ginobili will not play for Argentina at the FIBA World Cup because of a stress fracture in his right leg that has bothered the San Antonio Spurs guard since the playoffs. The Argentine Basketball Federation announced the decision on Thursday. The World Cup will be played starting Aug. 30 in Spain, and Ginobili's loss is a big blow for Argentina's chances. The 37-year-old Ginobili played through the injury while helping the Spurs beat the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals.

Those three words have been used repeatedly during the U.S. basketball team's first four days of practice. It's those things that will help bring together the final 12-man roster for the squad that will compete in the FIBA World Championships in Spain. ''A lot of guys make it to the NBA and that's a fraternity,'' Golden State guard Stephen Curry said after practice Thursday at UNLV's Mendenhall Center. ''Brotherhood is a good term.'' Curry, who won a gold medal with the team that went 9-0 in the 2010 World Championships, will likely have his passport stamped, along with fellow returners Kevin Durant and Derrick Rose.

FILE - JULY 28, 2014: A California judge has issued a preliminary ruling against Donald Sterling that would allow his wife Shelly Sterling to sell the NBA Los Angeles Clippers to former Microsoft chief Steve Ballmer for $2 billion, according to published reports. Former Commissioner David Stern praised the NBA's handling of the Donald Sterling controversy and predicts it will ''end well'' for the league. Stern said his successor, Adam Silver, has been ''forceful'' but also ''demonstrated a compassionate side'' in his reaction to the racist remarks that were made by the Los Angeles Clippers owner. He has been forceful, he has been reflective, he has been buttoned-down and I think he has also demonstrated a compassionate side as well,'' Stern told The Associated Press on Wednesday during a phone interview. Sterling's wife, Shelly, later agreed to sell the team to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer for a record $2 billion, a transaction the league believes will close shortly even as Donald Sterling continues trying to fight in court.
